A Week in Review: Memorial Day Weekend

Utica Ice Cream Fest Featured Image

We hope everyone had a safe and fun Memorial Day and Memorial Day weekend, I know we did! Over Memorial Day weekend you could have caught us at a couple of different festivals. We were in attendance at both the Utica Ice Cream Festival (Yum) and The Feast of the Flowering Moon. There was great food, perfect weather, and fun for the whole family. We love to interact with our community, and of course we love to help out with any roofing needs.

It’s hard to go wrong with ice cream, so let’s start with the Utica Ice Cream Festival. This is an annual event, so if you missed it be sure to mark your calendar for next year. This 3 day event is found in Utica Ohio, just nine miles north of Newark. Our gracious host, Velvet Ice cream, is a proud partner and supplier of the festival. The first day of the Ice cream festival kicked off with a parade followed by a day full of entertainment including: magic shows, live music, various competitions, a show presented by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, and our personal favorite the ice cream eating competition. Day 2 included an all day classic car show, a kiddie tractor pull, more shows, more music,  and of course another ice cream eating contest. The last day of the festival featured an all day motorcycle show, a three-legged race, a seed spitting contest, and another show from the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. The festival concluded with one last ice cream eating contest, so do you think we are sick of ice cream yet? No Way!

UticaIceCreamFestWe had a lot of fun at the Ice Cream festival, came home with new friends and tons of delicious Velvet Ice Cream. If you missed the festival don’t worry Velvet’s Ye Olde Mill is still available for free tours until October, check them out here http://velveticecream.com/.

Flowering Moon FestivalAlso over the Memorial Day Holiday we could also be found at the Feast of the flowering moon having fun in the sun and taking in some wonderful entertainment. The Festival began on Thursday the 26th with opening ceremonies, followed by the crowning of the Queen of the Festival, and live music for the rest of the evening. Day 2 of Flowering moon included more live music throughout the day, an “Iron chef” cooking demo, the 15th annual Ross County Idol, and of course traditional Native American dancing throughout the day. Saturday began with a cute baby contest, followed by a luncheon with the Queen of the festival, the Ross County Idol Semi-Finals, and of course a lot more dancing. The final day of Flowering moon concluded the dancing, music, and finals of Ross County Idol. The  Flowering moon festival was so much fun. We loved learning about other cultures, watching the shows, dancing, and eating good food as always. If you missed the Festival don’t worry it will be back in 13 lunar moons. (next year)

Able Roof Rock showWe finished off our Memorial Day weekend with a cookout at the office; which included a mystery meat guessing contest, a “Rock Show” and of course fun with friends. We had a great and memorable Memorial Day weekend, and we hope you all did too.

We love our community, and we love to attend their festivals! So keep checking our Twitter and Facebook to see where we will be. We would love to see you at these events so make sure to stop by our booths for some free gear and of course the best roofing information out there.
