Masonry FAQ

What exactly is the chimney crown?

The chimney crown is the part of your chimney that protects and holds together the top portion. It is the large slab that covers the entire top of the chimney. It is common for your crown to be sloped in order to help shed water.

What causes chimney crowns to crack?

It’s simple: cement is not flexible. This means that expansion and contraction of masonry is a common reason for cracking. In addition to that, small cracks will often develop and become large cracks over time.

How will I know if I need a chimney crown repair?

You can call Able Roof to schedule an appointment. As expert masonry contractors, we will come to your home to conduct a free inspection. We can photograph the damage and explain the steps necessary to correct the situation. Remember, a little bit of maintenance goes a long way in saving you money in the future!
